La typologie de Holland permet d’identifier les types de personnalité, soit : (R) réaliste, (I) investigateur, (A) artistique, (S) social, (E) entreprenant et (C) conventionnel, communément appelé le RIASEC.
Généralement, une personne a une appartenance plus forte à environ trois de ces types. Il en va de même pour les métiers. Cette appartenance tient compte à la fois des habiletés, des traits de personnalité, des valeurs ainsi que des intérêts.
Plus la concordance entre le profil d’une personne et son choix professionnel est similaire, plus cette personne risque d’être satisfaite et motivée en emploi, et donc de s’y maintenir à long terme.

Néanmoins, des outils plus long et précis (et malheureusement coûteux) permettent d’avoir une vision plus exacte d’une personne.
